Electric Temple

Limited to 200 Copies on Clear Pro-Dubbed 2xCS

The 2x Cassette/Digital curated compliation on Electric Temple Records entitled “Gaman: A Ceremony for Japan” is a benefit directly contributing the recovery of Japan. We have all been troubled by the happenings across the sea, but for almost all musicians in the experimental music scene, Japan is a place of sacred innovation, inimitable soul, and a relentless discipline unlike any other country. We know this will carry over in to the recovery process of the current natural disasters, but for us musicians, this is a small token of our appreciation for the things we’ve been given by such a beautiful country with so much tradition. All proceeds will go to Shelterbox: http://www.shelterbox.org/. This organization provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters at the time when they need it the most. They also are currently set up in Japan, making sure these beautiful gifts are affecting families one by one. As the benefit proceeds, we will be tracking the boxes that make it to families in Japan — that way each and every one of us that contributed know directly how we are helping and influencing, at least in some small way. Thanks to John Kolodij, John Twells, Nicole Yalaz, Rich Guzman (for the art!) and National Audio Company for their immense help in making this project a reality. Please join us in donating a small token for those in need. THANKS TO NAC FOR DONATING ALL 200 TAPES

Acid Birds is the free-improv/psychedelic project of Jaime Fennelly (Peeesseye), Andrew Barker (Gold Sparkle Band, Hallux), and Charles Waters (Gold Sparkle Band). Exploring cosmic tones of low-end harmonium drones over bass clarinet/alto saxophone squeals and a drum kit that features a five-foot wide tabletop as a cymbal, Acid Birds reach a territory where most psychedelic ensembles don’t have the musical knowledge to explore.

Mock Load, their debut CS release, calls on the spirits of saxophone based fire music a la Albert Ayler, kosmische tonal territory, and even reachs into walls of industrial noise. Side A was recorded at Issue Project Room in Brooklyn, NY as part of the QBICO night in 2009. Side B was recorded at Andrew Barker’s Studio in Brooklyn, NY in February, 2010. Artwork by Paul Duncan

ET-002: Expo 70 Resurrection (Heavy Meditation) CS

Limited to 100 Copies on Clear Pro-Dubbed CS & metallic silver paper. Out in 2011 on Vinyl

Expo 70 is the cosmic exploration of Kansas City based artist Justin Wright. While the project is quite prolific, Resurrection (Heavy Meditation) is an exercise in conceptual based improvised guitar — built off two sides of low-frequency drones much in the style of Earth 2 and similar conceptually to the work of William Basinski.

As the listening instructions in the flap of this release state, “In approaching this album for listening, for an over-all experience, one must let go of all inner thoughts of rhythm and song structure. This music will teleport you out of your daily life.. it is meant for escape.” While the Expo 70 discography is extensive,Resurrection (Heavy Meditation) is a brand new concept for Justin Wright, and will appeal to diehards and outsiders alike.

The always prolific Matt Valentine and Erika Elder are back at it with the debut 7-inch on Electric Temple Records, Sweetheart of the Nascar. Rising from the depths of the grass-roots, free-riding psychedelic underground, MV&EE provide the nighttime companion over two midnight-oil burning tracks to their recent masterwork for Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace label, Barn Nova. The A-Side title-track, “Sweetheart of the Nascar” is perhaps one of the duo’s heaviest tracks to date, pushing the threshold of Rust Never Sleeps-era Neil Young into sludge metal meets Mark Hollis ambience. The b-side, “Crow Jane Variations” is a slow-burner featuring Erika Elder’s reverb-drenched echoes behind a wash of lap-steel guitar and minor-key rustic psychedelic vibes.

Sweetheart of The Nascar was recorded with Matt Valentine’s mind-boggling production technique, Spectrasound. The Spectre Sound engineering was done by James Anderson, while the final mix was done by long-time producer/engineer Justin at Barn Row Studios and Matt Valentine himself at their home studio, Maximum Arousal Farm. The inventive technique is highlighted on “Sweetheart of the Nascar” with two drummers playing – one in the left channel, one in the right, spread across a gorgeous stereo-pan.
